Elijah Poole was born in Georgia October 7, 1897. Soon after meeting Master Fard Muhammad in Detroit he received the name Elijah Karriem. Quickly there after he received the name Elijah Muhammad. By the time of Master Fard Muhammad’s departure his title was Messenger of Allah. Over time out of respect; Elijah Muhammad’s followers began to call him the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. Today, many in the movement that the Honorable Elijah Muhammad helped to start now call him the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. The question is however, is this the correct way to address the Messenger of Allah?
According to the Honorable Elijah Muhammad; Allah came to us from the Holy City Mecca, Arabia, in 1930. He used the name Wallace D. Fard, often signing it W. D. Fard. In the third year (1933), He signed his name W. F. Muhammad which stands for Wallace Fard Muhammad. After W. F. Muhammad departed the Hells and Wilderness of North America, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad began addressing Him as Allah, Who appeared in the person of Master Fard Muhammad. What does that title as it relates to a person, Master, mean? That title Master, derives from the late Old English word mægester, which itself stems from the Latin word magister. Which means; chief, head, director, or teacher. The Latin root carries the fundamental meaning of: he who is greater. The word magister is derived from magis, which means more. Also the word is connected to the Proto-Indo-European root meg, which signifies greatness. This etymological foundation establishes the core concept of the title Master, which means someone who possesses superior knowledge, skill, or authority in a particular domain. The historical development of the word Master as a title reflects the evolution of social structures and educational systems. In medieval Europe, Magister was originally the title conferred upon university graduates when they began to teach. This academic usage established one of the most enduring applications of the term, linking mastery directly to the ability to transmit knowledge to others. The concept that expertise inherently carries teaching responsibility became embedded in the title's meaning and continues to influence contemporary usage. Within religious contexts, Master takes on additional layers of meaning related to spiritual authority and divine relationship. In Christianity, the title often refers to Jesus as teacher and leader, where Master is a term used to describe someone who should understand spiritual concepts. This usage connects the title to ultimate wisdom and moral authority, transcending worldly expertise to embrace spiritual mastery. The concept of spiritual mastery extends beyond Christianity to other religious traditions, where Master often denotes someone who has achieved profound understanding and can guide others toward enlightenment. In various spiritual frameworks, the Master represents the ultimate spiritual teacher or guide, embodying the highest level of wisdom and authority within religious hierarchies. This spiritual dimension of Master emphasizes the title's capacity to represent not merely technical competence but transformative knowledge that can guide human behavior and understanding. The religious usage suggests that true mastery involves not only skill but also the wisdom to use that skill for the benefit of others and in service of higher principles. The title of Master, for Fard Muhammad ,seems very appropriate when understanding exactly what both the word and the title means.
The title Honorable is more than a ceremonial prefix, this honor encapsulates deep-seated concepts of dignity, respect, and public service that continue to shape our understanding of governance, authority, and social hierarchy in western societies. The word honorable traces its linguistic roots from the Latin word honorabilis; meaning worthy of honor or estimable. This term evolved through Old French words onorable and honorable; conveying meanings of respectable, respectful, civil, and courteous. By the 1540s the word honorable had acquired the meaning of honest, sincere, or in good faith. By the year 1600 the meaning of honorable encompassed the sense of acting justly. This semantic evolution of the word reflects broader societal shifts toward emphasizing moral character over inherited status. Despite the United States Constitution's prohibition on titles of nobility; American society developed its own system of honorifics based on elected office and public service rather than inherited status. The American approach to the title Honorable embodies fundamental democratic principles while acknowledging the need for formal recognition of public service. Anyone elected to public office in a general election becomes entitled to be addressed as "The Honorable" for life. This rule extends to federal and state levels, with mayors and sheriffs at the local level also receiving this honorific title. Being as we were raised here in the Hells and Wilderness of North America applying the title of Honorable to the Messenger of Allah seems very appropriate. It also sent a message to our open enemy that the Honorable Elijah Muhammad did not need the devil’s permission to use the title Honorable.
